I like to keep things simple. I focus on breathing and diction exercises and I like to discuss with my students about their performance. My style is very friendly and open and I will push my students to succeed. Singing comes down to muscle memory and each session with me is a mix of working out the mind and vocal muscles. My goal in teaching is to make the student feel relaxed and at ease and therefore open to trying new ideas. I help them set realistic goals and acknowledge their accomplishments along the way, making them more eager to practice and learn.  I love seeing that spark when an idea clicks and the student finally understands a concept or achieves a goal. I teach from a flexible curriculum depending on the student's goals and interests. If someone wants to learn technique, music theory, songwriting, how to play Taylor Swift songs, arranging, composing, confidence, et cetera we will work on what is driving them to take lessons and learn! If the student is younger I will provide them with an organized syllabus and “fun” damentals! If they are older, I will help them find a way to stick with the music and accomplish their goals. For my piano students, I like to use a mixture of books from the Alfred, Bastien, and John W. Schaum collections. I eventually assign more advanced solo repertoire as the student progresses. For my vocal students, I pick music based on their interests and vocal qualities. I have taught my students musical theater, opera, art song, gospel, pop, and many other styles throughout the years. I also like to make sure my students have a solid understanding in music theory and often give out worksheets that help them practice how to sight read, recognize different key signatures, and more. I have been teaching voice on and off for the last 15 years. I have always enjoyed the process. More recently I have had the pleasure of conducting several masterclasses in China, where I was made an honourary professor, University of Toronto and Gordon College in Massachusetts. I have been singing professionally for 10 years in places like the Met and the Canadian Opera Company.
