I have over 10 years of experience in my field and 5 years of teaching under my belt.  Growing up with my father as a music teacher and my Grandmother as a dance teacher, teaching came very naturally to me.  Having sung a variety of genres myself, I have always welcomed a wide variety of students.  I’ve taught many types of singers ranging from Jazz Vocalists to Rock, Country, Pop, etc. and as a result I’ve put together a method of teaching that can be applied to many styles of music.  I find teaching to be a very rewarding job and always welcome new students of all ages, levels, and genres. Voice lessons are for the growth and benefit of the student; therefore, my goal as a teacher is to push my students to be the best they can be. While I may use anecdotes of my own experience in lessons, I am helping my students to become future versions of themselves and not my own clones. My method of working with the voice is to first get a sense of what the student's goals are. These include both vocal goals and career/performance goals. We will then work together to form a plan to achieve them. This will include exercises tailored directly to the student's vocal needs and desires and guiding the student to repertoire that will both be fun for them to sing and will teach them more about the concepts we are working on. With my new beginning students, who don’t have much experience, we start with the fundementals - singing posture, breathing, basic warm ups and their importance, music theory, and simple repertoire. For my more intermediate, advanced students, I will check to see where your fundementals are, and help you blossom from there. My intermediate to advance students will continue to work on breathing, breath control, warm ups, music therory, and will be assigned to contrasting songs at a time. Read More

Since moving to NYC, I have also started teaching at the New City School of Music in New City, NY. I find that teaching has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have had while in music, and I often feel that I have learned as much from teaching as from my own study. I firmly believe that it is as important that students learn basic musicianship skills such as sight-singing and music theory as learning their instrument of choice, and I try to incorporate these elements, among others, in voice lessons. I am fortunate to have met, associated and studied with, performed and recorded with some of the greatest musical minds of the innovators of traditional modern jazz, and also a few of the eternally legendary classical musicians. I have two degrees in music but more important is the gift that I have been given to know these amazing people in my life.
