I work with each student in regard to his/her own singing goals- whether they be for therapy reasons, recreational/hobby, academic/school, or professional reasons. I customize lessons to include these goals and to work with the singer's strengths and weaknesses. Every lesson includes vocal warm-ups that are tailored to each singer's individual voice and gifts. Repertoire is aimed at satisfying and expanding these goals. They will have the sight reading, transcription, and ear training skills necessary to move foreward into professional settings. Although my methods vary a bit depending on the instrument, the general plan is the same. For beginner students of instruments I focus first on fundamentals, such as finger placement, note names, what makes up chords so forth (again with a high emphasis on practice). I will gladly print out hard copies of chord sheets, note names, songs with chord markers if desired, or can display these digitally! I love watching my students develop a love of playing music. It's so much fun to learn to play and perform. I encourage hard work and preparation for recitals and concerts. I teach students how to teach themselves by use of recording themselves and to learn how to ask themselves questions and observations to make maximum progress. My teaching style is to be positive, energetic, and communicative throughout each lesson. I want every student to walk away from each lesson feeling good about their progress and feeling like they have learned a valuable tool to practice throughout the week. For me as a teacher, the ultimate reward is seeing a student feel proud of their accomplishments and gain confidence as a performer.
