For beginner students who are children, I tend to lean into the music that they are more fond of listening to and develop an atmosphere of interest while using various colors, singing methods, rhymes that will grasp their attention and in the long run develop their ear. I attended college at Houston Baptist University where I received a full scholarship to study music. Once I graduated I was immediately hired to do a national tour which was followed by 5 others. I perform on Broadway also. I was in 22 performances at Theater Under the Stars in Houston. I was then on television's Star Search and won. I've worked with children in various settings including the YMCA, local Sports Teams, and youth programs at several churches. I've taught music for 6 years and have enjoyed it since. I like to encourage those students who enjoy music as much as I do, to get involved in other music programs in the community, at school, or even at church, that way their gifts can be shared with others. There are many books on drums and piano or voice. I have to get to know the student to determine what I will use to get better results. It will depend on their age and attitude and initial talent. Also, a lot of kids are busy at school and don't have much time for practice. It means I need to get a lot done during the actual lesson and make sure that the info I m giving is settling in and there are no gray areas and questions of what to do until next lesson. Read More

My way of working the voice in particular is a combination of yoga breathing techniques, the Alexander singing method and the Stanilavsky method of acting. This to achieve a better awareness of the vibration and awareness of the vocal instrument. As for the guitar, I also combine typing exercises and coordination of the classical school and then move on to the area of chord and harmony construction a little more related to the jazz and contemporary music school.My students enjoy progressively knowing and discovering the possibilities of their instrument and then go looking for their pop sound and their own forms of expressiveness, leaving me as an advisor or coach in the musical forms that they wish to explore and enjoy.
