I always begin by figuring out how I can best teach a student by asking them their interests and goals for singing; whether they want to sing jazz or provide vocals for their rock band, or learn to sing classically, etc. For all students who are atleast in their teens or older, I begin by describing how singing works and talk about the function of the body in singing. I usually use pictures from anatomy books to help point out the key organs and muscle groups that are engaged in healthy singing, so as to give a visual aid of what we are working to condition for singing. I believe it is important to build a strong technical foundation and knowledge of the mechanics of the voice, while also focusing on performance and real-world musicianship. With contemporary music theory (beginning to advanced) integrated into each lesson, students learn to understand and apply a musical vocabulary that is necessary to communicate in the industry. As a vocalist myself, I think too often singers have trouble communicating with their bands in a rehearsal setting or with producers and engineers in a recording setting; therefor I see the benefit in students being able to identify the grooves and "feels" of their selected pieces as well as being able to count-in a band. Aside from Faber and Alfred, I also have Bastien method books that I have taught from during my decade of piano teaching experience. Of course, these aren't the only method books I have come to uncover. As for voice, I have a set of vocal warm up scales from major and minor scales and patterns that my own former voice teacher has provided me. I am very familiar with all the warm up techniques as well as breathing and how warming up techniques need to closely connect with the breathing. Read More

I Try to get away from mechanism without joy. Everything has to be close to the music. Exercises to be actually doing them with a rhythm and time. Other than doing things musically, practicing in different times and intentions help a lot for the student to be open to play songs in different ways. Technique and theory are necessary tools. To apply concepts musically they need to do it with musical taste. Read More

I have been teaching for over 5 years. I began as a private lesson coach and have been consistenatly growing with students for around 7 years. As well as song and technical technique, my students and I also focus in on composition, songwriting, improvosition, discovery of sound and direction, and artistry. I combine both clossical and modern technique's and combine them into a personalized lesson and practice plan for the student. I believe in steady but fun practice out side of classes and encourage my students to run through pieces or excersizes around 5 times a day or for around 15 minutes. Read More

I was born and raised in the beautiful Northern California area and from a very young age, I began to sing my heart out in my homeschool choir, in church and all over the house. I am a graduate of Simpson University where I received a B.A with an emphasis in voice. I trained as a Mezzo-Soprano in Classical voice and later went on to study Musical Theater. I've had the privilege of performing in roles, such as Mrs. Read More
