You will learn to understand your own vocal mechanism and how it resonates, as well as how breath support works, and their effects on the singing voice. I like to take elaborate steps with my students so that they have building blocks to continuously improve, while also ensuring them that progress is not always linear! The first half of a typical voice lesson is spent on vocal warm-ups and vocalises. These consist of scales, arpeggios, vowel unification, breath work, etc. and have been accumulated from many teachers over a variety of traditions. Vocalises are the most important part of a solid vocal technique. The second half of lessons is spent working on repertoire either brought in by the student or assigned by myself. In 2022, I graduated with my Masters of Music in Vocal Performance from Binghamton University. Over the past ten years, I have spent time performing on stage in concerts, operas, and musical theatre.
