I like to use a wide variety of materials, from classical to jazz music.  CLARINET: For clarinet students, I use "standard" conservatory etude and scale books (such as the Rose Studies and Behrmann Studies).  I also use the Jamey Abersold Jazz Methods, which feature CD 'play-a-long' recordings of jazz music.  I also have my students perform a wide range of solo music, from 'standards' like the Mozart Clarinet Concerto to 20th century repertoire by composers like Bernstein, Copland and others.  I think it is important for students to be able to play jazz and improvise, so I teach them about Blues and how to play jazz, as well as classical music. I am a driven and passionate instructor who focuses on students' artistic and personal growth as musicians. I began my musical journey as a singer, moving towards piano and guitar throughout my formative years. Simple breathing techniques, Hal Leonard's Vocal Warmups, is a good book I use for beginners levelsand other techniques will be taught to my beginners. We will discuss each student's goals and what they hope to accomplish in their classes. I will ask each student to sing a couple of notes and songs that I have prepared in order to assess their vocal range (alto, soprano, etc.). With the song of your choice, we will go over tone, vowel placements, translations, and performance enhancers (supporting additional sound, staging, etc.) to make the song your own and better than you have performed before. Hello! I have been teaching for over 20 years and specialize in teaching violin, viola, voice, music theory, beginning voice, and sitar. I obtained a BA in Psychology and BM in Viola Performance from Oberlin Conservatory in 2010, and a Master of Music from the New England Conservatory in Viola Performance in 2013. Ever since a child, I've loved learning, music and sharing my passions! Through grade school I grew into the role of a leader and a musical/visual artist.
