I started learning piano as a child, but it was in high school that I realized I really wanted to pursue playing keyboards, because it allowed me a way to express myself. I later attended Mt. Hood Community College, famous for its jazz program, where I played keyboards and sang in select choirs and vocal jazz groups. I have most recently had the opportunity to teach a college course at CalArts, private lessons to college level students at the institute, and group voice classes to K-3rd graders through the Community Arts Partnership. I like to use a wide variety of materials, from classical to jazz music.  CLARINET: For clarinet students, I use "standard" conservatory etude and scale books (such as the Rose Studies and Behrmann Studies).  I also use the Jamey Abersold Jazz Methods, which feature CD 'play-a-long' recordings of jazz music.  I also have my students perform a wide range of solo music, from 'standards' like the Mozart Clarinet Concerto to 20th century repertoire by composers like Bernstein, Copland and others.  I think it is important for students to be able to play jazz and improvise, so I teach them about Blues and how to play jazz, as well as classical music. I started teaching college age students as an Undergraduate as part of my vocal pedagogy class, and have also taught students for my Graduate vocal pedagogy class. I continued teaching some after the classes concluded. Early in 2013, I officially opened my own voice studio and have been taking new students ever since. I enjoy teaching voice students of middle school age through adulthood. I let my students choose what style of music they would like to sing so that they will enjoy working on it. Read More
