I believe communication is of the upmost importance. I communicate with parents to let them know how the student is doing, what we are working on, and what to do next. As mentioned above, I tailor to my student's needs based on their understanding and pace. Some students move a little slower than others in certain areas, and some move faster. After completing my BA in public relations I was awarded a teaching assistantship at the University of Arkansas to teach the basic speech requirement. I became pregnant and did not complete my MA but began teaching private piano lessons part time while raising my children. As the needs of my family changed I began working with children in other ways such as coaching ball teams. My teaching experience dates back to the early 1990's when I taught as an Adjunct Voice Instructor at Frank Phillips College in Borger, TX. I found this to be a fulfilling and rewarding experience as I taught freshman and sophomore voice students the fundamentals of proper vocal production through the learning of appropriate repertoire. Even when a student sign up for private lessons, I have opportunities for them to perform in groups. I think that students learn better when they have the chance to perform in a group.
