I've been playing professionally for over 18 years and have had the pleasure of being able to tour the country playing music. I've also had the opportunity to travel toEgypt, Iraq, Kuwait, Curacao, Canada, Mexico and Cuba to perform. I've lived and been able to immerse myself in two fantastic music cities, New Orleans and Memphis, both of which have had a profound influence on my playing. I like playing many different styles of music and have been in bands that played rock, jazz, funk, blues, soul, reggae, pop, country, and americana. Read More

I have been a professional bassist since the age of 17, performing and giving private lessons in lieu of a traditional after school job. Throughout my career, I have played in a variety of different projects across a wide spectrum of genres and have a solid understanding of most styles of music. I impart on my students a strong set of musical and technical fundamentals that apply to any and all styles of music, and only teach concepts and exercises that I myself have personally benefitted from. I try to tailor my lessons almost like a Doctor sees a patient. Every student is different, I do think it is important to learn to read music. I love music theory and I emphasize learning to love practicing technique. With my beginner piano students I generally use a Hal Leonard series book, but supplement it with a book of piano exercises. With my guitar students it depends on their age and experience, I use a Hal Leonard method book for youngsters and then begin teaching them songs they identify that they really want to learn. I am a big proponent of a hands-on learning approach that relies heavily on musical interaction and performance preparation. The best way to improve as a musician is to play, so I try to pinpoint what the student is interested in playing and focus our attention toward that, all while developing foundational music skills such as rhythm, sight reading, theory, ear training, and harmony. I like to start my students on a series of warm-ups and technical exercises that I've found to be essential in developing good technique for students of all abilities and experience levels, and eventually work up to playing repertoire that will strengthen their fundamentals and fulfil their musical interests. I consider myself a laid back teacher who still has solid expectations. I understand that each student's feasible time commitment may be different and I would like to honor that. With that said, I expect my students to put time into their music, because that is the only way to make progress and to maximize their ultimate enjoyment of playing an instrument. I will set realistic weekly goals for each student, trying to balance their interests with my evaluation of what they need to work on to make the most progress. Read More

A total beginner will usually start by learning chord progressions that are specifically in a major scale progression (ex. C-Dm-Em-F-G-Am-Bdim). Using chord progressions allows my students to grow accustomed to the feel of the guitar and the fundamental hand strength needed to play, as well as the finger dexterity needed to play certain chords. This fundamental also introduces them to major scales, and the sound of chord progressions in the major scale. Read More
