I give all of my students a mixture of technical exercises, repertoire pieces, and creative assignments to keep things interesting and varied. We will spend about half of the lesson on technique and theory, and the other half on understanding, and appreciating different musical styles and how to improvise comfortably and confidently over them. I have a much heavier focus on songwriting, and composing than most teachers, and I encourage my students to be as creative as possible while giving them the tools to do so effectively and correctly. I customize the lesson to the student through the basics of music and exercises. An instrument is your personality and I work close on my students progress throughout the time before they know it they are ready for their first band setting. I like to push my students to the next level and to their potential not all students are cut out for this business it takes a lot more than a pat on the back my students have to realize if their goal is be a music teacher or a hobby weekend musician than yeah you might want to go with the more structured teacher but if your in this to be an artist than I'm that guy. For beginner and intermediate students: I begin with the end; or rather, an end product. I ask questions like: What sort of music inspires you? What music do you love? What music could you not live without? What music do you aspire to make? Which musicians do you look up to? Depending on the answers, we can figure out a song / artist / style to choose as a goal together. Then I personally learn the chord structure and melody. (In the rare case that they are completely directionless, I'll choose a popular song that they can easily listen to on their own.) From there, I start teaching the fundamental techniques of the instrument, and continually refer back to our song, for why the technique is important. Read More

My hope is to encourage and inspire players of all ages to pursue music as a passion and find love for it. Each student is and individual and as an individual, there is no cookie cutter way to teach. Each student has their own goals and their own reasons for learning guitar. My desire is to teach them to the point where they are satisfied with their level of playing while encouraging them to expand their horizons of music. Read More

For beginners, I like to start with proper hand techniques so the student can begin playing a few beginner-level chords. Once a few chords are learned, I generally like to help guide the student in the process of writing their first song! No matter the length or complexity of one's first song, I've found it to be a very encouraging step in the learning process. From there, we move along according to the student's need or desire. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
