I have used several curricula and books by Mel Bay, Alfred, Hal Leonard and others. But in the last 15 years I have developed and used mostly my own books and recordings which are very thorough. I started developing this curriculum out of necessity because there was no one book that helped my students from a beginner phase all the way through intermediate and advanced levels in guitar playing. Not only did I learn about midi and music industry standards, I also had the opportunity to work with really amazing artists. One of my professors Mike Lacopelli was the recording engineer for Parliament as well as ran live sound for Aretha Franklin for 8 years. Later in my college career I began playing synthesizer with a band and working for Delta States Studio. I believe in a student learning to hear music and think for themselves. Through ear training, creativity, and learning "how" music works, the goal is to get each student to not need a teacher to learn their instrument, but want a teacher so they may become their best version of it. For visual learners, I encourage them to develop their sight-reading skills, but also find creative ways to work around ear training if it is difficult for them.
