My teaching style is based on having fun and enjoying music. I work with my students to set goals and reach them. I use my song based approach to encourage my students because one of the main reasons one picks up an instrument is to be able to recreate the music they love most. By doing this I can cater to my students' needs and desires as musicians. Read More

I have a deep love for music, and one of the ways that I express that is through teaching! I primarily teach drums and percussion, which has been my main focus since 2011 when I entered high school. From there, I began a path that led me to Millersville University and NYU, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Business Technology and a Master of Music degree in Percussion Studies respectively. I always try to make our lessons less like a lecture and more like a jam session. When analyzing a piece of music, I strive to relay the importance of knowing exactly what you're playing. Through this, the student gains a deeper appreciate for the piece and music in general, as opposed to just cycling through a chord progression. Most lessons consist of 1/3 technique and scales, and 2/3 repertoire. I always make sure to ask the students about what they like to listen to most because that will dictate which songs we learn during our lessons to make it more fun and relatable for them. Read More

I like to let a student learn at his/her own pace, as long as they are focused and putting in the effort. If somebody is a complete beginner, we'll likely begin by learning about basic elements of music (pitch, rhythm) as well as basics of the instrument (tuning, right hand/left hand placement and technique). If the student has some experience with the instrument already, we can talk about what music they are interested in and what they hope to gain from taking lessons. Read More

I have a variety of books I use for beginning students, depending on age and level, including the Alfred guitar book for kids. Regardless of level, I always help students learn some music they are already interested in, as that is a key path to enjoying both the pure joy of music itself and the delight of learning something you didn't know you could do. Another important pathway that I explore with students, earlier or later depending on the student, is to begin to learn to improvise and compose their own music. Read More
