I also taught youth and teen band classes and clinics at Plugged In Band Program in Needham, MA from 2005 to 2018, prior to moving to Los Angeles in January 2019. As my own musical ability grew, I began teaching lessons on upright and electric bass as well. In addition to one-on-one lessons I teach at a summer music camp. For young children I usually use the Suzuki method books for song selection and through those we can focus on the basic fundamentals of positioning and technical development. It is easy to see what needs to be addressed through those first few songs and we can go from there. For beginners, I start with the basics. I will show the student the anatomy of the guitar or bass and how to care for it. After that, I will begin to teach basic techniques. I will show how to pluck the strings and fret the notes. Once the student has a grasp of those concepts, I will teach them basic chords and scales. I will also teach the student how to sight read because in my opinion it is one of the greatest skills a musician needs. Read More
