For beginner students who are children, I typically start with theSuzuki Book 1 or Hal Leonard's Essential Elements depending on the students wants/needs. Throughout the lessonsI will coverbasictheory such as chords, scales, and other guitar/piano/drums/bass fundamentals neccesary to grow. For adults, I like to do a thorough interview to get a feel for what it is they want out guitar/bass/piano/drum lessons and from that develop a lesson plan based on the lessons i was taught by my music teacher in college. I just recently moved back to Colorado from NYC. Up until the day before I moved, I was working as a private music teacher for over 50 different students weekly, in-studio and in-home lessons, ages varying from as young as 2 to adult. Since I've returned, many of those students have continued with me as their teacher via Zoom/Facetime. The pandemic challenged my regular in-home lesson routine, so all of my instruction takes place over FaceTime/Zoom now. Read More

For beginners I press through Hal Leonard's Guitar Method #1, laying a foundation of skills as well as approaching notation reading on the guitar. From there we begin to specialize based on the student's interest. For more advanced students, we'll focus on goals such as live performances, audition preparation, and repertoire. Read More

For very beginners, I will typically start with a basic method book, such as Hal Leonard to learn the essentials of basic technique. For adults or students with more experience, I will cater my lessons specifically to each students interests and goals as I find that this is the best way to keep students engaged and excited to learn. I teach music theory along with anything we learn in a lesson so the student can apply it to material they are already familiar with and interested in. Read More

My teaching style is fairly easy going. I don't force unrealistic expectations on students because everyone is learning music for a different reason. I like to figure out what their reason is and progress accordingly. If it's a young student looking to continue music throughout their school career, I will make sure they learn how to read sufficiently and I will make sure they know how to play with peers by performing with the student as an accompanist. My students have gone from 5 year old beginners to very accomplished piano and guitar players. The student gets to pick the first two songs of the lesson, and I pick the next 2. That way, they get a lot of choice for the lessons. With the pandemic, the students have been very consistent with not missions lessons, which is pushing their progress as well. I, glad that I can provide a much needed outlet for them right now with things being a little different. Read More

I had my first student when I was in middle school (around 1993). Jumping forward a few years later, I started teaching again around 1998 while attending Bekrlee College of Music. At that time I was only teaching partime but quickly escalated to fulltime once I graduated in 2001. At my peak, I was teaching between 40-45 students weekly. I currently have 30 students of all ages and levels. I cover several styles depending on the students interests. Read More
