I began teaching in 2009, with private students. The following year, I began working with non-profit organization, for two years, that brought music to at-risk and underprivileged children. After working with them, I began working with the Baton Rouge Arts Council, bringing music and music appreciation to elementary school class rooms for children and schools that did not have a music teacher, on staff. For bass guitar I use the Mel Bay Bass Guitar Method which takes a student from creating rocking bass lines to building kicking bass licks from chord changes.Double Bass students will have classical training, techniques to build a solid, warm tone, use of the bow, and orchestral repertoire, including solo pieces. I am funatic, a fun teacher who is fanatic about there instrument. The cello is the middle child between the bass and the violin and a lot like the middle child stereotypes I also think the cello doesn't get enough respect. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Suzuki Cello Book 1. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire tailored for each student depending on their skill level. I started teaching when I was an undergrad in college. I've taught students of different ages with different personalities. I found it important for myself as a teacher to change my teaching styles according to each student. Using the vocabulary or description that the student understands and give them what they need/want is a better way for them to learn. There's no short cut to success.
