I'm a dedicated cellist and collaborative musician. Through my training, I have been fortunate to work with a number of inspiring mentors and teachers. I began my serious training on the cello in Santa Barbara, California where I participated in the Santa Barbara Music and Arts Conservatory.  It was through this program that I came in contact chamber music, and artist-teachers who instilled in me a drive for the richness, color and palette of sound possibilities the cello can create. For beginning students I start with the Suzuki cello books, and teach books 1 to 5. I reinforce the Suzuki with pop/ non-classical songs, depending on the student's interest. After Suzuki 5, which is well into the intermediate level, I introduce individual works (small concerto's, sonatas, etc.) and cater them towards the student's ability and interest. For younger or beginner students, I reinforce the Suzuki books with sight-reading, and as they progress, I add in etude studies.  Read More

My teaching experience began junior year of college when we started doing trial "lessons" in our classes and in the surrounding public schools of Lowell. Over that time I acquired specific techniques and methods that I have been able to apply to classroom settings and to individual students alike. Minjung won her first award in cello competition at Dong-A Youth Competition and followed it with 1st prize at Chungnam Philharmonic Orchestra Classic Competition two years in a row. As results, Minjung performed with Chungnam Philharmonic Orchestra twice at the Civic Art Center. Based on her multiple winnings, she received full scholarship to attend in one of the most prestige college in Korea, Sookmyung Women's University. Minjung continued her music studies in classical and contemporary musics, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Cello Performance. Read More

I recently began registration with the Suzuki Association of the Americas, and am in the process of becoming a Suzuki certified teacher for Book 1. I find the Suzuki method extremely helpful for starting young students, however I also like to use other resources such as the Essential Elements book for beginners. I also want to focus heavily on note reading and sight reading at a younger age, so students have a solid foundation if and when they become members of orchestras or other ensembles. Read More

I have been teaching group and private lessons since 2021, and I have experience working with students of all ages and backgrounds in both virtual and in-person lesson formats. As part of my appointment as a Teaching Fellow through NEC's Community Performances Partnerships program, I am currently a Teaching Assistant at the Conservatory Lab Charter School in Dorchester, MA, where I work with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade cello students on technique and music-reading, and through this fellowship and other NEC classes, I have received training in various pedagogical practices for private teaching. As I am certified in Suzuki Book 1, I start students with Suzuki books and methods, while also supplementing with other materials and incorporating any extra music/activities a student might be excited about! With students who have already started, I will often still refer to the Suzuki materials, but I will pull more from other books and repertoire.
