My teaching goes all the way back to the late 80's . I began teaching the piano and drums to my little brother. I just turned 41 so it has to be about 30 years ago. I got my formal instruction in classical music in High School. That is where I developed a real passion for classical music, and opera. I went to Kentucky State University on a music scholarship. While there I was in several operas. Read More

My teaching approach begins by meeting the students where they are in regards to musical capability. We soon push the boundaries of what they think they are capable of and allows them to apply the music theory in real time. A consistent schedule, whether it be during our schedule lesson or a follow up email packet, is the distinctive difference in my lesson plans. This practice regimen should continue long after our scheduled lessons and should be one of many vital keys to your child's future successes. Read More

Adapting to a student's needs is one of the fastest ways to stimulate passion and progression. I try to be as adaptive as possible regarding each student's needs, interests, strengths, and weaknesses. I genuinely care for each student I teach, not only as a musician, but also as a person. I also like to keep my students in a constant state of listening and learning, always discovering new music and learning new songs. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I access their skills after a handful of lessons and adjust to their needs going forward for them to continue to advance as musicians. Read More

I believe music instruction should be thrilling and rewarding, and leave the student eager to play more! Maintaining the smile that comes from the joy of expanding skills and creating a unique world of sound is my calling, and I believe every student deserves the chance to experience that. Music can be used to develop social skills and expand self-awareness, as well as two stimulate both right and left brain thinking. Read More

For drums I would start off by showing them different parts of the drums and how it operates. After that I would then tell them the name and give them hacks to remember each part of the drum set. Once that is done I would then allow them to hit each drum piece to get a feel on how it sounds. Once that is over I would then show them how to hold their sticks which often times is traditional grip. Read More
