My teaching methods are relatively universal. With younger students, I focus more on learning to have fun while learning about their instrument at the same time. The more fun they're having, the more likely they are to stick to it. For adults, I keep this same philosophy in tact, but incorporate more technique, theory, and performance practice into our sessions in order to facilitate the learning curve. Once I know what my student enjoys about music, I tailor my lessons around that. Read More

I believe music instruction should be thrilling and rewarding, and leave the student eager to play more! Maintaining the smile that comes from the joy of expanding skills and creating a unique world of sound is my calling, and I believe every student deserves the chance to experience that. For beginning students, I start with getting comfortable holding the drum sticks and understanding how to properly strike the drumhead. Students will be introduced to basic notes and rhythms that will help them along the way. Beginning students start on drum pads and progressively move towards actual drums. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music. It is so important that each individual student progresses at his or her own ace. I encourage this progress by setting realistic and clear goals for my students at each lesson. When I acknowledge their accomplishments, it helps to fuel the desire to learn of the student and makes them eager to learn more. Once I find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction towards the wants and needs of my students. Read More

By the age of 16 I started playing piano/keyboard in church and learned by ear. At Marquette University and The Institute of Production and Recording I earned A's in all my music theory classes. A typical lesson would include a warmup and a short converstation to make sure that the student and I are on the same page. I want the student to have fun and enjoy the lesson but I also want to push the student to reach their goals. Goal setting is a very important process of any lesson. Benchmarks allow us to see where we're going and celebrate when we get there. Read More
