I began teaching over the summer of 2010. While attending Berklee, I had countless one-on-one and small group sessions with fellow drummers where we would bounce ideas off one another and give each other "mini lessons," breaking down specific grooves and licks. In October, 2014, I led an hour-long master class for other Berklee percussion students about advanced polyrhythmic concepts and applications. Growing up, I was influenced by gospel music and played in church at a young age. Later on I gained a lot of marching band experience and training in music theory in the Frederick county Advanced Music Studies program. I began teaching in 2009 while I was attending the University of Massachusetts Lowell. While I was a student I began to study with some truly great musicians who really helped me realize my potential. I got some jobs teaching area high school drumlines and marching bands and really enjoyed the experience. When I first started playing I was mostly interested in marching bands and drumlines. I started teaching at the age of 16 at three different music stores in the Detroit area. My students were often times older than me so I was forced to adapt fast and develop lesson plans that might not be "standard". My lessons focus on technique and musicality so the students can see their skill develop fast, and most of all they can have fun while learning due to my focus on musicality and focusing on the students favorite music to not only play but listen to.
