I have a strong passion towards music that developed early as a child. During my life i have had the opportunity to take lessons from some of the greatest guitar players that ive ever heard and integrate their teaching methods and styles into my lessons. Recently ive played with 2 of the top 3 wedding bands in the Northeast (Boston Commen and Park Street Band) all of these things have pushed my limits musically to allow me to play a broad range of music. I started teaching in 2008 while still studying at the University of North Florida. Most of my expierence is with children between the ages of 5-13, though I have taught much older as well. The real joy I get from teaching is when the student begins to love what they are doing. Any instrument can be difficult at first but once a love of music is combined with the student's instrument, the greatest strides will be made. Read More

I love sharing my passion for music with others, and I've learned that sharing my knowledge is one of the most rewarding experiences in my life. This is why the experience needs to be enjoyable and fun. I have realistic expectations for my students and help them reach their goals at their pace. Every time the student succeeds at one of their goals makes me ecstatic. I remember the struggles of learning and how satisfying it is. Read More

Naturally, my method will adapt to each student's needs. This will depend firstly on what style of music we are working to develop. Next, I will base my approach on the students level of abilities. There are a number of things to consider, such as technique, aural capacity, intuitive understanding, and basic theoretical knowledge, as well as each student's particular personality traits and best method of receiving information. I have a large repertoire of pedagogical literature and performance pieces. Read More

For Bass and Guitar students I have written a progressive theory "test" which does 2 things - it tells me what the student knows and it serves as a guide in future lessons. Some theory instruction goes along with whatever playing instruction the student is working on. For Drum students I stick to the aspects of theory that pertain to the drums - meter signatures, note values etc. If a drummer wants to learn more then I can work with him on it. Read More

Since I have had many different teachers in many different areas of my musical life, my philosophy is to be flexible and open as an instructor. I have learned many different methods and techniques, and depending on the type of lesson I'm teaching, I use whatever methods are relevant. Whether I'm teaching rock music, orchestral music, or even marching band techniques, my goal is to give students the skills and tools they need to have fun and be successful. Read More

On the first lesson, I seek to establish long-term goals based on the interest and skill level of the player. One of the first questions I ask is, "what song do you want to learn the drum part to?" The most important thing about playing any instrument is to have fun, so I custom-tailor every lesson in order to see the most enjoyment on my students' faces as possible. While I have hundreds of pages of exercises I have written from which to pull, I will usually hold off even opening my book until I feel the student is ready to have fun with it. Read More
