The primary responsibility of a music teacher is to cultivate music literacy; an understanding of music from both a fundamental and holistic standpoint. Fundamentals would include: technique, sight-reading, rhythms, scales, arpeggios, rudiments, chords, etc. Holistic concepts would include: music history, music theory, ear training, ethnomusicology, etc. My ultimate goal for all of my students is to help them become independent and enthusiastic musicians. I played with every type of group the university had to offer, including jazz bands, orchestras, concert bands, marching bands, percussion ensembles, steel drum ensembles, hand drum groups, musicals, accompaniment for the dance department, student recitals, rock bands, drum and bugle corps, and more. For beginning students who are children, I typically like to start with rudiments and technique studies. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will introduce the Moeller method. Later will move to the drumset and apply all 3 methods and became to develop what I like to call he groove and bass excises and different warm ups. In middle school, I began performing and teaching music during the summers at Vacation Bible School for children ages 3-10. Throughout high school, as a member of a variety of bands, I performed at a wide array of venues around New England. During this time, I ventured into song writing and musical arrangement.
