I've been teaching for the last year and a half in both the private capacity and for a music school in West Seattle. I've helped students prepare for recitals, parades, living room performances or to start a band of their own and I love the variety that teaching the drums provides. My focus is on the students' interests first as I find that this is the best way to encourage practice and make the instrument fun! Read More

I am a 42 year old Male instructor, who has lived in Seattle since 2006. Moving from the Southwest, I am currently a professional music instructor and performer.. Enjoying the outdoors immensely, I often find myself riding my bicycle, jogging and hiking in the Great Northwest. I have a large interest in soccer as well, spending time enjoying watching and playing it around the city. Music is largely my main passion, I play it and enjoy attending live music Covid permitting. I am patient and creative in my approach to teaching technique, sight-reading, and musicality. I believe that music performance should be an enjoyable and energizing experience for the performer and listener. I assign practicing material based on the goals, interests, and performance level of each student. While learning individual pieces can be fun, I also focus on giving the student the right tools to become a life-long musician in whatever capacity they choose. Read More

I start most beginning students (and evaluate more advanced ones) on snare drum or practice pad. This is a central instrument to the percussion family and most techniques used on other percussion instruments are based on sound snare drum technique. I like the Alfred Drum Method book for students just starting out regardless of age as the ability to read and understand written music is important no matter what stylistic path one follows. I have the same approach to teaching beginner and intermediate piano. Again, we learn our notes in five finger position and then we learn to read time signatures, notes in the treble clef, chords, and rhythms, as well as playing complete songs. When teaching piano for beginners I like to pick the leaning material that we'll use based on the individual because we all learn differently and I like to keep it fun so the student stays interested. Mylove for teaching stems frommy desire to pass onmy knowledge of musicto others. Helping others develop a passion for music is somethingIfeel isnecessary tocopein a world that can often be overwhelming without an outlet for expressions, such as music. I have been instructing students in percussion since I was a Junior in high school and taught at the Denny Way Music School on Capital Hill from 2013-2015. I have instructed students, from elementary school to adulthood, in areasincludingmusic theory, ear training and drum performance. Read More
