I have performed with The Ritz, Jazz Harp Trio and Vocal Summit featuring Bobby McFerrin. I earned a Bachelor Music Education degree from Berklee College of Music and subsequently served as professor and Assistant Chair of the Voice Department during the final 10 years of my tenure there. I'm currently offering private instruction in contemporary singing, scat improvisation and my "instru-vocal" approach to trap set drumming. Listen, listen, listen! Listening is the most important thing that a student can do to get better at the drums. By doing so the student will be able to imitate, assimilate and finally innovate, which is the goal. Listening to lots of records and copying what the drums are playing is critical! Not only will I do my best in teaching fundamentals, technique or more developed concepts on the drums but I will also provide skills necessary to be able to self-learn and practice efficiently so that the student can troubleshoot and not fully depend on a teacher. I began teaching in 2009 while I was attending the University of Massachusetts Lowell. While I was a student I began to study with some truly great musicians who really helped me realize my potential. I got some jobs teaching area high school drumlines and marching bands and really enjoyed the experience. When I first started playing I was mostly interested in marching bands and drumlines. I marched multiple seasons with the Boston University Winter Percussion Ensemble while in high school and then held the center snare position with the Spartans Drum and Bugle Corps.. Read More

My path as an educator began during my time studying history and philosphy in New Orleans, LA. I was playing live music almost six nights a week, and started helping out as an assistent at Tipitina's Sunday Workshop for young musicians. There I helped and watched the great Johnny Vidacovich teach young aspiring musicians the art of playing in an ensemble. While at Berklee College of Music I have helped teach in classrooms and clinics alongside many of the world's greatest musicians, including John Patitucci, Steve Bailey, Joanne Brackeen, Vadim Neselovsky, Carol Robbins, and Alain Mallet. I am well versed in the pop/rock genres and have taught myself through learning popular songs but even more singificantly through composition; I have written over one hundred songs as a singer-songwriter and have much to impart in this field. The skills developed in these areas (improvisation, composition, music theory) are the ones most likely to ensure an autonomically deep and everlasting connection to confident music performance and development. Instruments: Guitar Drums Bass Guitar
A class once or twice a week is beneficial I believe for keeping up the continuity of practice. We will work on first the guitar as an instrument, basic chords, chord structures, some basic scales, and over time making chord changes happen as the minds memory/muscle memory for remembering chords grows! This is crucial for making the basic song happen. I encourage my students to find a handful of songs they really enjoy and may want to learn, so that we can learn them piece by peice. Read More
