I started teaching music lessons back when I was 14, when friends would ask for tips or lessons, and local parents wanted lessons for their children. I fell in love with the act of helping others to realize the music inside them, and have been teaching consistently ever since. Learning any musical instrument involves learning about oneself. For beginning students we usually start with sitting at 2 drum sets and learning to hold the sticks. It's then about trying to get the sticks to strike the drum and practice getting a nice sound on the instrument. Even at a young age, it's important to help the students to think about tone and how we are creating sound on these instruments. I use the same technique on the vibes, learning to hold 2 or 4 mallets and just creating simple sounds. Read More

From my experience, most of my students, if not all, practice diligently and consistently because they want to! Not because they are forced to, but because they love to. I first started teaching drums part-time over ten years ago. My students have ranged in age from 12 to 45; my students tend to be at a Novice level, though I have also taught intermediates. I teach in my own home studio or at the student's house. Working on the drum pad as well as the drumset provides the student with multiple forums of expression and learning of multiple skills.
