I began teaching music while I was in college. Although I was not an education major, I did take education classes and learned a lot about pedagogy during my time in college. I have experience teaching beginning percussion-intermediate percussion on mallet instruments, snare drum, timpani, drum set, and orchestral percussion. My teaching experience started the last year of attending Heidelberg University when I was required to instruct a high school student drum lessons as part of my internship. After graduation in 1991 I had my first vocal student in my home. In 1995 is when I had my first experience teaching in a music store environment. The store was known as Howland's Music World and was there until 1997. I encourage my students to set short as well as long term goals so that they can have a timetable of tangible results as motivators to get to the next level. I always take into consideration the amount of time that we have together (number of lessons per month) in order to reach these goals so I am able to keep everything on track. I absolutely LOVE music!!! Let me say that first. I really enjoy playing, listening to, teaching, and learning about music. Most of my playing experience came from growing up in the church and playing in various school and extracurricular music groups. I currently play professionally but I enjoy giving back to students what others have given me over the years. I hope to do the same for my students. My favorite styles are rock, CCM, Contemporary Gospel, RB, Latin, and Pop/Electronica. Read More
