This is something that I try to move through fairly quickly as to help the student progress to material that they are interested in. From there we will continue to build their foundation, but by learning from material that they have brought in. Once the student has progressed to an intermediate level, I like to start introducing more advanced music theory and musical references to enable the student to start finding their own unique style. Born and raised in The Netherlands with a Spanish upbringing, I came to New York to continue pursuing a career as a musical performer and educator. For beginning students who are children, I typically start the first day with allowing them to perform what they have learned prior so that I can see where their strengths and weaknesses are. Afterwards, I will work on their strengths so that they feel confident to tackle on their weaknesses. Once the student has progressed in fundamentals, I will advance them to solo repertoires appropriate for their performances.
