I prefer low stress, casual, and sometimes jovial - but engaging - lessons. All students are different, and players progress through their musical journey at different paces. So while I want to be a steady guide that motivates them, I also engage and interact with students in ways that fit them best. My teaching style centers around learning the student. I focus on the big picture. What can we do now that will make the most significant impact on the player's trajectory? Read More

I really covered this in the above information,so continuing in more detail,it really depends on each individual student, their level of ability and age that determine the course of study. It also depends on the instrument. Some instruments like piano, violin or viola, books are more practical because the music is notated. With most fretted instruments, music is written in tableture which was originally used for the lute and brought back i think in the 1970s.Its easier than reading music and is more practical for those instruments. Proper stretches, warm-up techniques (reudiments to help strengthen their dynamics), correct posture and the over all comfort of beginning. Once the student has progressed and understands the fundamentals, next would be reading music and counting time. When moving beyond the fundamentals, I try to focus more on the particular interest of the student. Is there a certain genre, a certain song, a certain player? Read More

I like to build the lesson plan around the student. Everyone learns differently so it’s simply a matter of assessing each student individually. There are fundamentals in both guitar and drums and once I learn about my new student, I am able to build a strategic plan that allows us to effectively communicate so that we can make the most out of our lesson/practice time. I like to find a way to relate. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Drums Euphonium French Horn Tuba
I always enjoy seeing the light bulb moment my students get when they get something right, and learn something new. My teaching method is a simple stacking method we start with a lesson, I try to find where the student may struggle most and spend time with that. Then we move forward, but revisit the lesson prior for continuity. Lip slurs, scales and fundamentals for the brass players and rudiments, speed and handing techniques for all percussionists the practice and teaching regiment is simple yet effective. Read More
