I have taught guitar, drums and music on and off over the past 30 years. From children to seniors and ages in between, I say practice makes perfect! As a teacher I encourage my students to progress. I learned so much from my great teachers, I experienced being a student myself! I am learning all the time. As a student I learned a lot, so in turn I enjoy teaching what I have learned. Read More

Berklee College of Music graduate, Aaron M., has been teachings students of all ages for over 18 years. "I love watching young musicians grow into seasoned players and have had tremendous success with all my students. I believe that learning songs and playing music is a critical element in the learning process of becoming a good musician. This is why I bring a powered PA speaker, mp3 player, and (sometimes) a guitar to my lessons for the student to play along with and learn familiar songs. Read More

My path as an educator began during my time studying history and philosphy in New Orleans, LA. I was playing live music almost six nights a week, and started helping out as an assistent at Tipitina's Sunday Workshop for young musicians. There I helped and watched the great Johnny Vidacovich teach young aspiring musicians the art of playing in an ensemble. While at Berklee College of Music I have helped teach in classrooms and clinics alongside many of the world's greatest musicians, including John Patitucci, Steve Bailey, Joanne Brackeen, Vadim Neselovsky, Carol Robbins, and Alain Mallet. I began teaching over the summer of 2010. While attending Berklee, I had countless one-on-one and small group sessions with fellow drummers where we would bounce ideas off one another and give each other "mini lessons," breaking down specific grooves and licks. In October, 2014, I led an hour-long master class for other Berklee percussion students about advanced polyrhythmic concepts and applications. In addition to teaching out of my rehearsal space in Allston, MA, I also make lesson videos that I share online. Read More

I am an easy going person and I like to teach with a laid back style. I understand that not all students learn the at the same pace which is why I bring an individual approach to all of my students. I like to bring in different ideas and listen to different examples of rhythms and genres and really break down how each one works so that I may be able to find another way to make a groove not only fit into and example, but feel like it was made for that moment. What I like most about lessons is working with the student towards the common goal of making them a better musician. That is done by reaching many smaller goals over the course of weeks and months and possibly years together. With that in mind, I like my lessons to be an open conversation between the two of us. That's why it's a lesson and not a lecture. I always encourage my students to ask questions and bring in material they want to work on or even a cool video they saw. Read More

My lessons for vocalists are divided into two sections: technique and repertoire. For singers, breath management skills are of primary importance as this directly affects intonation. I like to begin with Anne Peckham's The Contemporary Singer. My students can choose any songs they would like to sing while we work on musicianship skills including expression and lyrical phrasing. Singers who want to study jazz and improvisation use one or more of my pedagogical texts on scat singing. Read More
