For beginning percussion students who are children, I typically start with Kennan Wylie's Simple Steps to Successful Beginning Percussion and Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has grasped the fundamentals of playing and reading, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I began giving private lessons in 2003, and have taught in my own studio since 2010. I have taught group percussion to elementary -aged students and worked with a high school band and percussion ensemble. I have also been a music teacher in the OKC public schools, working with PK through 6th grade. I am certified by the Oklahoma Department of Education in instrumental music for PK-12.
