I studied percussion primarily in college, but also studied voice and piano during my time at Baldwin Wallace. The benefits of reading and understanding sheet music as it relates to your instrument far outweigh those of simple tablature used for guitar and banjo etc. However, in some cases it is practical to use non-traditional forms of instruction.
