For more intermediate and advanced students I like to focus strongly on music fundamentals, assigning regular etudes and finding pieces fit for the students skill and interest!   For beginning guitar students, I focus on learning the pedagogy of the guitar : string names, basic care and maintenance and finger placement, later moving on to open chords and melodic playing. I believe that learning music should be fun and inspiring, but that 95% of artistry is simply hard work!  I, therefore, aim to create a positive and encouraging environment for all of my students, while still setting challenging goals.  Additionally, I tailor my teaching to fit each student’s needs so that he or she can maximize learning potential. I first find out how the students learns best. Knowing if somebody is hands on, likes to listen, needs to watch, be shown etc. can impact the experience and quality of the lesson. Using analogies is something that has really helped me in my practicing so I enjoy passing that on. Setting realistic short term and long term goals are absolutely essential to progression, along with finding an inspiration.
