For beginning kids, I usually start with three or four major scales and a couple of other basic routines to improve their knowledge of the notes and their tone. I began teaching lessons privately in high school, about 6 years ago, and throughout college consistently. I have taught brand new musicians, who have never opened their instrument case, all the way through high school levels. I believe in starting the young musicians right with a good sound. As a young student, I was an aural learner, if I heard it done, I could copy it. It was not until very recently that I have been able to grasp and oral way of learning. As young teacher, I find that I can be successful with students in both ways of teaching. It is much easier to inspire the student once I can grasp their way of learning.
