Currently Im coaching a jazz ensemble at an NYC public middle school and am working with kids that might not have the resources to study privately. There are two basic method books for beginners, and comprehensive, themed books for advanced players that focus on Tone, Technique, Articulation, Intonation, Vibrato, Breathing, and Scales. I encourage this by realistically setting specific goals for each student at each lesson, making sure I am as clear as possible to help encourage this in any way. Piano: Beginner: If you're new to piano we'll cover all the basics. Learning the notes on the keyboard, how to read written music, basic chord construction, and playing scales and other simple melodies with one hand and eventually onto two hand playing. Intermediate: If you are looking to build on some basics, or coming back to the instrument after some time off, we'll re-establish some fundamentals and progress onto more advanced scales like melodic and harmonic minor. My teaching style can most accurately be described as patient and creative. Music should be fun. The student should enjoy practicing.  It is my job to create a lesson plan that allows a student to progress steadily, without straining the limits of their abilities. I use standard method books, along with personal sheets of exercises I have developed through the years. I publish my own solo books with accompaniments, which I also use. These books are primarily classical pieces, but I also use digital accompaniments for jazz and popular music. Theory and ear training are also part of my lessons. My lesson books include Rubank books for beginning students, and Rose, Andersen, and Bassi studies for more advanced students. Read More
