If students are very young and have not learned to read music, I work on ear training and listening to music and practicing rhythms before learning to read music. When teaching older students and adults, I feel it is helpful for me to find out what kinds of music they enjoy listening to, so that they can learn these pieces on their instrument. For beginning students I make sure we know every warm up exercise and stretching exercises for the fingers after explaining the importance of rehearsing properly. We will start getting familiarized with a couple circles until the student fluently knows how to accompany every chord. After we are going to learn scales so they also familiarized with licks and comp.
