I began teaching when I was in High School, where I had several students of varying ages and skill levels.  I taught private lessons in their homes.  I encourage regular practice, and weekly lessons.  A mixture of method books and my own personal written lessons I have found to be the most effective teaching strategy. Books with a variety of popular solos I also utilize.  Method books are necessary for skill, but can get boring and repetitive for younger students.  Keeping things fresh and interesting is my main focus in teaching. I am a passionate flutist that loves teaching flute privately in addition to performing. In May of 2022, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from The Hartt School of Music with a BM in Flute Performance. While I was there, I studied with Janet Arms, flutist of New York City Opera. I have also extensively studied with Dr. Barbara Hopkins, Assistant Principal of The Hartford Symphony Orchestra. I am very relaxed and understanding, but extremely focused and productive in lessons. I do not force my students to practice; if they don't have an urge to practice then I need to adjust my approach. It's my goal to make my students WANT to practice. Through lessons any student will get better, I like to provide them with the proper tools in lessons to practice and learn effectively because most of the learning actually happens after the lesson. When I teach, I like to make sure my students feel welcome and encouraged. I will always praise them when they make improvements, no matter how small, but I will still make sure they know what it is they have to work on without reprimanding them.
