I always begin a lesson with having the student play a song/piece of their choice, so that they can feel confident and comfortable in their own skin and in the lesson space. For wind instruments, long tones and scales will occur at the beginning of the lesson, and will be followed by study of an etude and/or piece of repertoire. I will ask the student to sing through the piece, so that the student can make a connection with their own voice and with the music, followed by the student reading through the piece with their instrument. As an educator, I believe it is important to continue school music instruction into private flute lessons. I like to communicate with a child's school music teacher in the beginning of flute lessons, so that I can keep music terminology consistent for students, as well as reinforce concepts they're already learning (while expanding musically of course!). I like to have students keep a lesson packet where progress is documented, along with a journal--I find that reflecting for five minutes after a practice session (things that went well, things you need help on, questions), are important tools when striving for success. I have a lot of orchestral experience due to the rigorous orchestra program that I attended at Bard Conservatory, but at the same time have explored a lot of the solo repertoire for flute, flute and piano as well as flute and orchestra. Chamber music has always been a passion for me. I particularly enjoy playing music written for Woodwind Quintets. I think that all aspects of performing as a flutist have their own unique beauty. I am a freelance flutist based in New York City. I have experience as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician. Graduating with my Bachelors of Music in Flute Performance from the Hartt School of Music in May of 2018, I am now finishing my Masters in Music from the University of New York. While I am an aspiring orchestral musician, I am also passionate about chamber music and collaborating with other musicians. Read More

I am passionate about both teaching and performing. I am Suzuki certified and take Shin’ichi Suzuki's philosophy to heart. I believe that, by taking flute lessons, everyone can learn confidence, discipline, and the joy of self-expression through music. I offer both Suzuki and traditional flute lessons and believe that it is my job as an educator to tailor my teaching style to the varying needs, interests and goals of each individual student. My teaching method is different for every student based on age, level, and their musical goals. However, the two things that I try to keep consistent among all of my students is a solid technical foundation and curiosity for different musical styles. For beginners, I typically start with the Rubank Beginner or Intermediate method book. Once the student has progressed to grasp the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce etudes and solo repertoire along with any pop or jazz songs they might want to learn. Read More

My first experience teaching began in 2014 when I began working marching band camps as the flute tech. I was responsible for helping the students learn marching fundamentals and drill for the show, in addition to running music related sectionals with the flute section daily. I started teaching privately in the fall of 2017, teaching middle school and high school students. At NYU, I am an Adjunct Flute Instructor teaching non-music majors flute lessons, and have had a wide range of students at NYU - beginners all the way to advance players. Read More
