Over the course of many years, I've developed a method for beginning piano and woodwind students which yields excellent results. For the first series of lessons, I want the student to become comfortable in understanding the keyboard or the wind instrument, avoiding the secondary interface of sight reading. There are about twenty short, simple, basic songs I have the student master. At this point, not only are we working on understand the harmonic and melodic "hardware" of the keyboard or horn, but we are developing proper technique in terms of hand position, posture and sound as well as a natural rhythmic feel. I am an adjunct faculty member at NYU, teaching saxophone, clarinet, and keyboard, and music theory. I began teaching saxophone when I was 15, to beginning players at local middle schools and quickly built a full studio of young saxophonists, clarinetists, and flutists. Since then, I have taught at Birch Creek Music Performance Center in Egg Harbor, Wisconsin, led masterclasses in San Jose, Costa Rica, Orange County, CA, Rochester, NY, and the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas for TMEA full orchestra in 2011, Hartford Convention Center for 2015 Connecticut All-State Festival, and at the IES Music Center in Vienna, Austria where I studied flute performance with Forough Djafar-Zadeh-Karimi and Ulrike Anton in the spring of 2018.
