I hold a Master of Music degree in Flute Performance from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance from the New England Conservatory. I've had the privilege of performing as Principal Flute with the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra and collaborating with various ensembles across the United States. I am an active soloist, orchestral player, and chamber musician currently living in Boston! I have performed with leadership roles in a variety of local ensembles, including the New England Conservatory Philharmonia and Wind Ensemble, as well as the New England Philharmonic.  My performance activities brought me on tour with the University of Washington Wind Ensemble to Beijing in 2013 and I have recently had the opportunity to travel internationally to work with renowned flute specialists, such as Jeanne Baxtresser, Bonita Boyd, and Leone Buyse. I leads masterclasses, adjudicates competitions and auditions, and perform throughout the community, and have played Flute and Piccolo with the Steamboat Symphony Orchestra since 2019. I earned my Master of Music degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a Bachelor of Music at the University of Colorado at Boulder. For beginners, whilst working with a Standard of Excellence book, it's important to take the time to work on things on a smaller level throughout. Although working through the books and going onto the next level is the goal, I find it imperative ensure that the techniques are being fully utilized along the way. For example, we don't want to just read the notes and play along, we want to make sure that articulations, tone, breathing techniques and fingering is also being focused on. Read More

I believe in being very structured with young students, as children thrive on structure. I give precise weekly practice assignments and expect the parents to be involved with their child's practicing. For adults, I like to have them set the tone as to what they want to work on, as adults have goals in ways that children do not. I would ask an adult student why they they had come to study flute with me and listen to what they wanted. Read More
