My teaching methods varies from different styles . I teach music theory, jazz improvisation, musical concepts for all instruments, as well as saxophone and flute lessons . I prefer to teach lessons for one hour, this gives the students a full spectrum of their weekly assignments. I first began teaching the student basic fundamental which includes breathing, fingering, basic rhythms and notes .Once the student has developed these things, I develop a repertoire for the student, The first half of the lesson deals with technical exercises in the second half deals with creative aspects of music such as theory and improvisation. With younger students, imitation is often one of the best methods of learning and I prefer the Suzuki method for students up to age 8, especially with strings. For older children and adults, learning music notation and basic music theory for a full understanding of musical language are more important to get them to the level where they can learn any music that they want to play for fun. For beginning students, I like to start from Essential elements, Suzuki 1, or Piano Adventures. Students will also likely have a theory workbook or worksheets that match the level of their current repertoire. Intermediate students, we will start using a program called smart music that plays the accompaniment for pieces that we are working on.
