There are so many misconceptions about reed strength and how it relates to mouthpieces that I could talk about it all day (and usually do). I mix in ear-training with all of my students through different ways of connecting them to the music. For beginning students I typically start with Hannon and my own finger exercises. I ask the the student to draw notes on a staff so they can get familiar with reading and composing music.
