Over the years, my students have consistently placed high in the Western Region Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Orchestra, and several of them have gone on to the extremely competitive Connecticut All-State Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Orchestra. Four of my students have successfully auditioned for the summer program at Interlochen. I have had two of my high school aged students have gone on to Harvard, one to Amherst, and three to Yale - all of whom played in the Yale Concert Band, Yale Jazz Ensemble, and/or Yale Symphony Orchestra. I am a passionate teacher and musician and I have experience teaching students of all ages. In 2018, I graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and a concentration in flute. I'm currently enrolled at the Hartt School where I am pursuing my masters degree in Flute Performance. I co-direct the Hartt School's Flute Choir and teach private flute and piano students. In 2018, I toured China with the University of Delaware Orchestra as the principal flutist and piccolo player. Read More

I am no drill sergeant, but I wont lie to you either. I know when you've practiced and when you haven't. I encourage you and always be honest with you about your progress. I am on your side and want you to succeed.  That being said, I have a fairly structured lesson. Starting with a breif warm up, we wilk touch upon a review of the previous lesson, technique drills, and then the music we are currently workung on. Read More

I find that it is imperative to acknowledge accomplishments so that student's have the desire to grow and progress. I do not believe in setting "practice times" as I find that can create very unhealthy practice habits physically and emotionally. Instead, I teach my students to listen to their body and their emotions as to when they want to practice - this will lead to them becoming confident musicians while also growing their love for music! Always start with the basics to build upon a strong foundation. For beginners, I typically recommend the Rubank series (now part of the Hal Leonard Corporation), likely the Rubank Elementary Method, or E. Wagner Foundation to Flute Playing, depending upon what level they've already achieved. I teach both to the book and to the student's needs preferences; thus, we may progress on a page-by-page basis, covering approximately 1 book page per week with a weekly 45-minute lesson to review and then progress, or focus on areas the student needs to strengthen, such as practicing long-tones to improve tone strength and quality and using the book lessens only as a supplement. Throughout my years of personal training, I have accumulated a collection of useful song books, workbooks, flute and piano repertoire, theory books, etc. I have resources for all levels of playing and learning (appropriate for students of all ages!) I like to begin my lessons with a brief discussion with my students regarding how they envision their training to be, goals they may have in mind, and what they ultimately want to get out of lessons. I began teaching when I was in High School, where I had several students of varying ages and skill levels.  I taught private lessons in their homes.  I encourage regular practice, and weekly lessons.  A mixture of method books and my own personal written lessons I have found to be the most effective teaching strategy. Books with a variety of popular solos I also utilize.  Method books are necessary for skill, but can get boring and repetitive for younger students.  Keeping things fresh and interesting is my main focus in teaching. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
