I love seeing a student gain an understanding of a concept that had been challenging. In order to accomplish this "aha" moment, I try to learn how the student learns best (visual aids, explanations, listening examples) and use that to help the student. I use popular songs that the student knows to explain concepts that can be challenging. I began to develop a deep love of performing, but struggled with severe stage fright, so I mostly kept myself away from any stage for many years. Years later I found a flute choir to join, where our performances were "safely limited" to churches and elder-care homes. With practice, many performances, and some unexpected networking I discovered some local "pro-jams" where I made my rock-alternative-jazz debut. I have seven years of teaching experience from beginners to advanced high school students. My teaching career began in 2015 as a teacher for The Joseph and Anthony Manzi Foundation Summer Band Camp. I have played many diverse styles over the years. In addition to being well known in the world of classical saxophone, where I have worked with and studied with several world famous players, I have always enjoyed playing in jazz ensembles and playing clarinet in both chamber music and symphony orchestra settings. Music has given me the opportunity to tour to a dozen countries and perform in some of the world's great concert halls, from Carnegie Hall to Lincoln Center in New York to halls in London, Moscow, Kiev, and Tokyo. I will always praise them when they make improvements, no matter how small, but I will still make sure they know what it is they have to work on without reprimanding them.
