Being as humble as I can be, teaching is a privilege. I love that I'm able to offer great amounts of value to my students' lives! In my approach, I do my best to engage students with challenging questions in various capacities. I offer precise feedback. There's much we can learn from outside perspectives, and so I incorporate past experiences and insights coupled with colorful analogies for optimal growth. I also offer a diverse set of tools, that I myself employ, which makes practicing more efficient and enjoyable. Read More

As a performing musician, we are always giving and receiving knowledge to our colleagues and pals. I've been teaching people things about music since the end of high school, when I began to really feel like I had a grasp on what "good playing" sounds like. It wasn't until college when I sat down with someone and gave them a free one-on-one lesson for the first time. At that moment, even though my primary passion is performing music, I felt ecstatic that I was actually able to teach someone something that they'll remember throughout their days as a musician. I have been a teacher almost as long as I can remember. As one of the more advanced students in class I was often utilized to help other students, even in elementary school. By the time I reached high school, I was sitting in the concertmaster seat (even though I was a violist) and I regularly led sectionals and conducted the orchestra when needed. At that point I also had a small private studio. Read More

I believe that the overarching goal of music is not to become "successful" or to become a virtuoso, but to bring joy into your own life. This is why I create a unique curriculum for each student that is designed to meet their wants and needs as musicians. For example: if the goal of a student is to become a guitarist in a performing band that creates original music, I will emphasize song writing, improvisation, and ear training that is required to become that type of musician. First and foremost, I typically ask the student if they have any goals and what they are. Then I do my best to give the student the best lessons that support their goals. I do not want to only give material the student will not enjoy. Music is fun, even if practicing isn't always fun, and I will keep this in mind. My primary teaching goal is to remind you that music is a language. Read More

Feeling and noticing that there has been gradual success is key to inspiring students to continue with their instrument. Playing a musical instrument presents numerous challenges mentally, physically, and sometimes emotionally. It is equally up to the teacher and the student to recognize the growth that has occured week to week. As long as the work is being put forth by both parties, finding success (even if small) will not be a difficult feat. Read More
