I have had the privilege to make my leaving as both a musical performer and teacher for over thirty years. In that time I have taught and played many different styles of music. I have studied jazz with Steve Khan, classical with Jerry Willard, alternate tuned fingerstyle guitar with Peter Lang, bass with Jerry Jemmott...I am still an avid student of the craft and art of music and teaching. For children under the age of 9, I recommend a Suzuki-based method which involves the parents at each lesson and for at-home practice. For children 9 and up, I offer a more traditional classical approach which shows them how to read, interpret and gives them the technical skills on the instrument to enjoy themselves and keep on growing musically. Adults are wonderful students and for each one I craft a path of study to allow them to grow in skill as they master new levels, from absolute beginner to advanced musician. Read More

My teaching style is based on whatever the goals of my student are. If my student shows an interest in being able to play a particular piece, then we are working step by step to reach that goal by building up to it. If they want to write their own music in a particular style, then I am helping them analyze music that they are influenced by to better understand how to add it to their vocabulary. Read More

When teaching guitar I often use the Hal Leonard Method for younger students. I am a big fan of the Berklee Modern Method books for those who learn a little faster. For piano I also have found several methods I like and often use the Hannon Piano exercise book as supplement. For voice I like to record the lessons so the student can practice what we've worked on at home. Read More

My teaching style is to set a weekly goal for each student, in terms of music learning. It can be one or two songs per week, but the goal is to first learn all the necessary chords, then to learn the rhythm or the song and lastly to learn how to sing the song if they want to. The brain needs time and repeated training to be able to assimilate and learn that, and after each of these three parts are practiced separately then they start to be done together, and then it starts getting into an automatic's mode. When I teach, I tend to forget the time. I always walk an extra mile, vocal lessons especially. I want my students to learn the basic techniques on how to use their vocal chords, where to place their voices, how to memorize, how to hold the mic, how to emcee, how to phrase, express, improvise which really needs time in learning. But after that, students will be more inspired, motivated, more eager to learn and challenge themselves to be better singers or performers. Read More

I like to make my lessons engaging and fun. For students who are beginning their guitar journey, I like to start with the basic fundamentals of guitar, such as teaching them the body of the guitar (head stock, tuning pegs, string names, frets, how to hold and use a pick, etc.). We then will go on to learning how to position their fingers on the guitar neck and frets to play notes, learn chords and eventually, once they are ready, we will start working on age appropriate songs for the students to learn.
