My teaching experience dates back to my younger years where I first started teaching kids ranging from the age of five years old to 10 years old in large groups. This taught me a great deal of concentration diligence and patients which I can think and has aided me in my teaching skills today. Overtime my teaching developed and now I teach students ranging from all ages and all musical background and styles I can definitely say that I am confident in my abilities because it’s a huge passion of mine. My teaching experience started back in High School. I was in a music class and every month I would get to teach kids how to play the ukulele. In college, I started teaching private music lessons and worked at a local music shop and I would teach people how to play songs before purchasing an instrument. I taught students of all ages ranging from a 3 year old little girl to a 68 year old retired mailman. Read More

I like to get my students to a level at which they can actually make/play music first, using their current favorite genre of music. The sooner they can make sounds on the instrument that resemble something close to "music," the sooner they'll fall in love with the instrument. Once they have reached that level, we then dive in to music theory, guitar specific theory, sight-reading, and all of the other necessary areas of music that tend to deter most potential students. Luckily I was taught by not only very high skill level players, but also by charismatic individuals that were also very good educators. As an educator, my main focus is to emulate their masterful ways of teaching and incorporate that into my program. I use various methods: how to read music, hear music and create music. Ear training is super important to me as it allows the student to learn "feel". Read More

I like to use a combination of methods and method books. For a beginning band student I would use Standard Of Excellence of Essential Elements. For guitar students I like to use a combination of methods, depending on the student. I like to use the Old Town School's book for their first songs or Essential Elements for guitar. I like to use a method for guitar that emphasizes reading notes instead of just tabs, and also emphasizes rest stroke and free stroke. Read More

Again, as stated above, my approach is based on the proven CAGED system, and stresses mastery of the basics, using the language and concepts of "classical", jazz and blues -in particular. I begin by establishing what students (already) know and don't know about music and their chosen instruments, making connections between pre-existing knowledge and concepts, and "filling in holes" -while teaching these basics. Then, as soon as students are able, we begin applying this knowledge -these concepts- to their preferred musical mediums -in addition to "branching out" to apply basic knowledge/concepts/skills to increasingly more advanced applications. For beginning piano students, I use Alfred's basic Piano Library. This works well with young children as it has colorful pictures and easy to understand language. For Adults who are just starting to learn piano I like Alfred's basic Adult Piano Course. This course comes with audio CD's to accompany the student each step of the way. It makes it fun. For beginning Guitar students, we go over the parts of the guitar and learn how to tune the instrument. Read More
