I have been teaching since 1996, beginning as a teenager, teaching out of my house. From 2000-2002, I taught at Southern California's "Sounds of Music" music store, at one point having over 50 weekly students spread over 4 days. From 2002-2004 I taught at Pete's Music, also in Southern California. After taking a few years away from teaching I began giving mobile lessons in 2007, and taught all throughout Southern California.  Currently I focus on giving lessons online, as well as in my own studio. I'm an extremely passionate educator and performer with over 20 years playing experience and 17 years teaching experience. I have toured and recorded with national acts who's music was showcased and featured in major motion picture and video game soundtracks. Recently; I just recorded with the former original lead singer of "Toto": Bobby Kimball ("Africa", "Rosanna", "Hold the Line"). For the past 15 years, I have a built a reputation of instructing the best "up and coming" drummers in the area. Read More

I like to get my students to a level at which they can actually make/play music first, using their current favorite genre of music. The sooner they can make sounds on the instrument that resemble something close to "music," the sooner they'll fall in love with the instrument. Once they have reached that level, we then dive in to music theory, guitar specific theory, sight-reading, and all of the other necessary areas of music that tend to deter most potential students. I taught general music, choir, piano, and band in the public schools. I also worked in an after school youth orchestra, teaching woodwinds. Before that, I taught guitar to friends and some beginning students. I also helped my classmates who were learning guitar. I have mostly worked with beginners, and some more intermediate students. I have taught in the classroom setting and small group lessons, and some one-on-one lessons. I feel my greatest strength is teaching beginners and elementary aged students. Read More

I grew up and went to high school on Long Island , New York. I always loved the guitar and began playing in rock and metal bands while I was in high school, playing shows and competing in battle of the bands in New York City, as well as competing in guitarmageddon competitions. Once I began studying classical guitar with Michael Belajonas in college I quickly fell in love with acoustic finger style and flamenco guitar. Read More

If you have a Music Degree, what is it in (Performance, Education, Musicology, Theory, Composition, etc) and why did you choose that degree?
Of course I have a degree in music education. I feel as though music education is one of the biggest things that you said having your plane arsenal because it’s going to make you become a literate musician which is something several musicians like nowadays. Being trained in music theory will help you improve with whatever style or genre you’re in and will further your writing process and take things to the next level which I feel is though every musician needs. I’m not saying you have to have a degree to be a good musician but it’s definitely something that you need if you’re really wanting to be a solid musician.

What does a normal practice session look like for you?
A normal practice session for me usually last 4 to 5 hours not days. And usually starts off with basic technique and metronome practice then gradually goes off into music theory concepts and then finishing it out with writing. I feel as though being creative writing is what’s really going to cultivate your sound and playing abilities from what you learn technique wise because you can’t have one without the other both technique and writing creativity tie hand-in-hand with taking your musical abilities and displaying your talent on a wide scale.

Do you use specific teaching methods or books? (Ex: Alfred, Bastion, Suzuki, Hal Leonard) Why did you choose them if you did?
To tell the truth I don’t really rely on books or DVDs to teach people all of my lessons are based off of my own experiences playing instrument live and in the studio with writing. I feel as though that is the best way to really teach a student and have them understand where you’re coming from. I’m not against books or other lesson plans because we all started with those but as a teacher I want to get my students in the habit of dealing with real live musical experiences which is the only way to really take your plane to the next level and improve. to tell the truth I don’t really rely on books or DVDs to teach people all of my lessons are based off of my own experiences playing instrument live and in the studio with writing.
