After receiving my Associates degree in music from Suffolk County Community College I studied at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. I majored in music composition and had a desire to write film music and compose new guitar pieces. I really enjoy teaching , especially children, and watching students grow in confidence and ability. I take my role as an educator seriously and I continue to push myself to grow as a teacher adapt new ideas and technology into my lessons and continuously try to expand my own skills and knowledge. Teaching music is my passion! I love seeing my students make a progress and it makes me tremendously proud knowing that I am the one who taught them the new skills. I use an individual approach and lesson plan for each student, tailoring it to the specific student's needs and aspirations. It's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Read More

My teaching method is entirely student driven. Every student has different goals and different styles of learning. Because of this, the "cookie-cutter" approach many teachers take are ineffective. I take the time during the first lesson to ask the student what their short and long term goals are with their instrument, and from there I can start laying out a lesson plan. As I have more lessons with the student, I can observe their learning style and adjust my teaching approach accordingly.  Read More

I take a very personalized teaching style. Like I said in the My Methods section, I first find out the students favorite music, musicians, songs. Then I create lessons around that information. I am teaching the students chords, theory and structure while they are learning their favorite songs. And let me tell you, when students learn their first song, it is a rush that motivates them to learn more. I am very patient and work with students at their pace. Read More

For beginning piano students, I use Alfred's basic Piano Library. This works well with young children as it has colorful pictures and easy to understand language. For Adults who are just starting to learn piano I like Alfred's basic Adult Piano Course. This course comes with audio CD's to accompany the student each step of the way. It makes it fun. For beginning Guitar students, we go over the parts of the guitar and learn how to tune the instrument. Read More

I like to see students getting excited about learning new concepts in music. I also like to see music becoming a part of their lives and learning. I enjoy passing on what I've been given. I like to see music becoming a part of students lives and being an enjoyable experience for years to come. One area I specialize in is helping students with their band or ensemble music and giving them the extra help they may need to excel in their band or choir classes in school. As already stated, my approach stresses understanding a mastery of "the basics" of musical knowledge and instrument-specific knowledge and skills -while adapting to the individual strengths/weaknesses and interests... of the individual students. Among other things, my approach emphasizes empowering students by quickly and efficiently imparting essential and useful knowledge and "real skills" that enable students to know and demonstrate, at will, music knowledge and ability. My students tend to become knowledgeable and skilled rapidly, having a clear understanding of the basics of musical knowledge and instrument-specific skill, imparting confidence in their knowledge and ability, while providing them with the knowledge and skill(s) to solve musical problems and achieve musical goals. What do you think is the hardest thing to master on your instrument?
I feel as though everyone has a creative block every now and then it’s something that every musician deals with. I can definitely say sometimes I go through slumps where I’m having a musical wall and meet a breakthrough but that just pushes me to further my plane and think of new concepts and ideas to take it to the next level. Mastery and creative blocks are one of the hardest things to conquer when playing in any instrument but it’s also something that I find can be mastered over time with hard work and diligence.

Have any of your students won awards or been selected for special honors? How have they succeeded?
Several of my students have received fans from their own music because of my lessons and musical training which is helped improve their own bands and musical endeavors. I can’t say they’re winning Grammys but they are definitely making moves in the music world and improving their lives which is the greatest reward to me in my opinion. Every student should have a special goal that they are trying to achieve with my lesson should be doing to help them. I am proud of my students and what they have achieved through my lessons.

What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
I’m definitely proud of all of the live shows and traveling I have achieved with playing guitar. Most of all I’m definitely proud of my endorsements and instruments I received from playing all these years. To be able to travel the world meet new places try new foods and experience new things in life are the greatest accomplishments to me. There’s nothing more for filling in life than that I can definitely say that it has made everyone in my family proud and above all myself which is most important.

Why did you choose your primary instrument?
I’ve always had a huge fascination with playing Atari ever since I was younger. The things you were able to create with plain is something that other instruments didn’t seem appealing to me. The sound and the playability of the instrument is what really stuck out to me playing guitar something that I always found inspiring to do and still feel that way to this day whenever I pick it up. Like they always say, everyone secretly wants to play guitar whether they admit it or not! Guitar will always be my passion.

...behind this amazing song has to do with the controversy over whether songwriter Kurt Cobain wrote the riff himself or was unintentionally inspired by a song called “Eighties” by the band Killing Joke. If you listen to both tracks, the similarities are pretty astounding. Regardless, it’s still one of those guitar classics that sticks with you.   For this song, we’ve included the main guitar riff as well as the basic chord structure.   [Intro] Em D Em D Em D Em D [Verse 1] Em D Em Come as you are, as you were D Em As I want you... ...can to check things out on the smallest scale possible before you can fully comprehend the bigger picture of how it works. In basic music theory, the furthest we can zoom in is down to the individual pitches we hear in music and in the world around us. Let’s call these notes. Music theory gives each pitch its own name by measuring how many times it vibrates in a second. For example, on a keyboard the A above the middle C is known as “A440” because the pitch vibrates 440 times in a second (the middle C is the C note found ... Read More

...was never used in a James Bond film.     “Pumped Up Kicks”/ Foster The People/ 2011       “Pumped Up Kicks” is a dark, troubled song dressed up as a shiny pop masterpiece. The song was written by Mark Foster, who formerly worked as a commercial jingle writer, in just five hours in 2009 shortly after forming Foster The People. In an interview, Foster said the day of the recording that he nearly opted in to going to the beach rather than recording the song. The song earned the group a major record deal and wide acclaim. The lyrics of the song ... Read More

...to bounce. Because you want the sound to either disperse or be absorbed, wall, ceiling, and floor materials are important. For a surface to absorb as much of the sound as possible—ultimately converting it to heat—it is ideal to use materials with a large surface area. Carpet will absorb more sound than wood flooring, because the sound waves will vibrate in the nooks and crannies of the surface. Curtains, tapestries, and other cloth-based wall coverings will help to dissipate and absorb sound better than the smooth surface of a wall.   The furniture inside the space will influence the paths of the sound ... Elliot Mason of Wynton Marsalis’ band at Lincoln Center is well known for his use of the bass trumpet, and Rashawn Ross has recorded with the bass trumpet as well. Ross is known for his studio ...
