I am a very patient and laid-back instructor. I enjoy a very loyal student base as evidenced by my Connecticut students to all stay with me in an online capacity when I moved to Tennessee. So I think I must be doing something right :) I like to teach students some of the songs that I think every guitarist should learn. The classics, the essentials. But I also ask them what they would like to learn. Read More

My students get a strong base in theory, technique, and repertoire...usually focused on identified goals and outcomes. As students grow in ability and age, I engage their interests more so their instruction is more fulfilling. I use a unique approach to practice (I call the "nitty-gritty") with lots of fun (I call "music recreation") are techniques I use to keep students motivated. There is W-O-R-K to music. I will keep the focus on the accomplishment so that work may become ethic that lasts a lifetime. Read More

I've found that with any instrument, its important to pick music that stretches you, but also music that the student likes or loves to keep them interested and engaged. It can sometimes be hard work, so it's important that the result is you either accomplishing a goal and that could be in technic or learning a song that you love. Even if the student wants to work on improve, we can figure out a song that they enjoy, or have wanted to play along with for a long time, and we can build a track of that song for them to practice too. I strictly teach a practical and real world approach that quite frankly is not in any "textbooks" out there. I developed this approach through 25 years of playing professionally in a variety of genres (CCM/Worship, Pop, Country/Folk/Americana, etc.) and helping dozens of artists in those various genres as a music industry consultant. My method of guitar instruction is best suited for an individual who is interested in pursuing a career as a singer/songwriter regardless of the specific genre. Read More

I am primarily a guitar player from the Hudson Valley in New York, currently living in Nashville, TN. I have worked with many amazing musicians around the world on 3 different cruise ships. I have been teaching since around 2011, which is also when I began performing live. I went to Dutchess Community College and SUNY New Paltz universities, where I studied music (mostly jazz and metal/rock) and graduated with a B.S. in Contemporary Music degree. Read More

For all students I start with the basic fundamentals. For younger students I try to find out where they are in their music classes at school and incorporate as much of that curriculum into my instruction as possible. For older or more advanced students I find out what type of music they are interested in learning and gear my instruction towards their interests. I have several instructional books series that I work from, including Hal Leonard, Mel Bay and my own packet/study guides that I have put together that I present to my students as they progress. I have used many different methods over the years and will supplement any method book to meet the individual needs of the student. My preferred method for young students is the FJH Harris Young Beginner's Guitar Method series. For older students I tend to use either Mel Bay or Hal Leonard methods to teach the fundamentals and then add onto them with whatever suits the student best. For advanced students I prefer the William Leavitt methods from Berklee University Press, which will be a challenge for anyone! Read More
