My teaching style stems from my philosophy that music is a language. So my approach is focused on using the skills and knowledge while "speaking", or playing, with other musicians. That is why my approach is focused on jamming. After the student can understand how to make the instrument sound, I immediately give them the oppertunity to put their skills into practice. I will take time from each lesson to just jam with the student and allow them to explore the instrument. Read More

After completing my BA in public relations I was awarded a teaching assistantship at the University of Arkansas to teach the basic speech requirement. I became pregnant and did not complete my MA but began teaching private piano lessons part time while raising my children. As the needs of my family changed I began working with children in other ways such as coaching ball teams. For 10 years I served on my citys Parks Board and have worked as a local coordinator for foreign exchange students. Read More

For students who are young with no musical background I start with the Essential Elements series. At the next stage, I challenge the student based on their interests. I tend to push students to learn jazz, as its the basis for all drum set playing, but know that most kids are more interested in other more modern styles and accommodate them accordingly. I have a number of books that I can draw from, including Jim Chapin's jazz book, Syncopation, New Breed, Buddy Rich's book, and many more.. Read More

I have been teaching beginner guitar students for just over 1 year now. I have taught students from ages 5 years old to 60+ yrs. My love for guitar is expressed through teaching others who have a desire to learn, and to develop a passion for music as it relates to playing the guitar. I believe that anyone can develop this skill, if they just dedicate themselves to lots and lots of practice, and book study. Read More

I have experience providing lesson content in both an in-person and online environment. I got started teaching originally providing informal instruction to friends who were learning guitar. They thought I excelled at it and encouraged me to pursue providing instruction further and so I started to seek out and find students to teach. I also have experience arranging popular music for classical guitar and set up a website to teach fingerstyle guitar through tutorials I provide on some of the songs I've arranged. Read More

My main goal and teaching is to inspire self motivation and make it fun! I like to pick songs that are fun to play and challenging at the same time depending on what level you are at that time. By doing this I think keeping the instrument out and not in the closet is a good start that way if the inspiration hits you and you want to play it is within your reach "guitar stand and wall hangers are ideal" and not in the case the put away " Out of sight out of mind" I suggest buying a music stand for your instruments and or wall hangers which seem to work very well as a display and also so the instrument is within your reach.
