Instruments: Guitar Violin Viola

My teaching experience began when I was in High School, where I was a mentor to students in their middle school orchestra and a section leader for the violas. Directly after high school, I went to school at BYU-Idaho where I studied for 5 years as a musician and a teacher. I studied with Dr. Kevin Call, a viola student of both Don McInnes and William Primrose himself. I worked closely with Dr. Read More

I am a 34 year old male music teacher who specializes in teaching any kind of guitar with strings on it from bass to steel guitar, classical to electric.. I have played for 23 years and I love teaching all kinds of music. I have no college degree or anything fancy but i have the desire to teach others what I have learned. Music is my passion and I hope to inspire many others to play just as I have been inspired to keep playing all these years by my father who learned how to play guitar with me. Read More

I start by gathering information about a student's goals and inspirations, and prior knowledge/experience. From there, we develop a plan for warmup exercises, technical exercises, literature, sight-reading, ear-training and listening excerpts to be studied. I determine whether the student needs to begin learning primarily by ear or using some kind of written notation. We find a schedule that will work with both of us. Most students have a regular weekly time, but some students need a variable time due to their individual schedule so we work that out in advance. Read More

Depending on the instrument that the student studies and how old they are is how approach teaching them. For example, my voice studentsalways start out learning the same techniques and warm-ups, but where we go from there is based on the age of the voice and how a person wants to learn. With Guitar and Piano I may use a book as a supplement to my teaching, but not as the focal point of my teaching because every learns differently andare ina different place in their journey. I always keep the students in mind with progression and excitement constantly. The throwback from week to week will give both the student and teacher a insight what has to be improved and advanced. I have many students playing professionally in bands and orchestra's as well. Each student has individual needs that will be in conjunction with the personality of the student a great rapport with both of us or group I am working with. Read More

I teach the fundamentals of music, and I make sure you know how to read music. Piano can be a challenging instrument to learn and play, but I can teach you the tricks to make it easy.  For example, I can teach you to play and sing Beatles songs in two to three weeks.  I highly encourage my students to be creative, but I don't require it.  Creativity can be utilized even when you are playing Mozart or Bach.  I also teach improvisation, songwriting, and music production with Ableton Live. For beginning students who are children, I usually start with simple things as rhythm exercises that awake their musical aptitudes, and also a couple of musical games that allow the children to learn music but still have fun and bring the possibility to engage a very intimate relationship with their instrument. For youngsters and adults, first of all, I try to find out their primary interests and musical preferences, in order to establish a clear and safe path to approach their learning process. Read More
