Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

I have been playing and studying music for over 40 years. By the time I entered high school, I had enough skills as a guitarist to join a band with several older students who were playing at dances and other local events. At this time, I started to take formal guitar lessons with a respected local teacher. I learned to read music and became interested in classical guitar. After high school, I attended County College and studied music theory and piano, and majored in classical guitar. Read More

I teach out of instructional books, notably books by Hal Leonard, Mel Bay, and Alfred. Sometimes, I use sheet music print outs, and draft up my own exercises. I go back in forth in a non-conventional manner, adapting accordingly to the student's needs. I like to incorporate exercises and warm ups to improve and enchance technique. I also teach songs that the student would like to learn. I'm very patient and rarely rigid in my approach, although I do stick to a general routine that allows a focused approach to learning. My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, continued throughout my college experience, and is my current part time job at numerous music schools. I use a combination of determining where the student is currently at, areas the student wants to to improve, and my own profession assessment of where a great place for the student to begin would be in our lessons. Every student learns differently, so that's why he adapts to all situations and ensures his students are given the tools and knowledge they need in order to reach their full musical potential. The student begins by learning all seven shapes of the major scale covering the neck. From there, all other scales can be related back to the major shapes, making it easy to remember. I have my students improvise using the scales theyve memorized, which is a fun and helpful way to develop their ear and knowledge of the neck. I also teach students chords which allow them to comp or accompany someone else improvising. Read More

I enjoy watching students progress and improve. It brings joy to them and myself. Playing guitar or bass for me is a form of art therapy/meditation. It's a place where one can lose themselves and activate/stimulate the brain unlike any other engagement as the brain is simultaneously multi-tasking when playing an instrument. I've helped clients get past obstacles in their abilities and philosophy about the guitar/bass and music in general. Read More

My name is Daniel Erdahl or as kids often call me, Mr. Dan. I have been playing and studying music for nearly 30 years, and teaching for 20. I play and teach many, many styles. I started playing rock and blues as a kid, later becoming very focused on classical guitar. Over the years I have picked up several other instruments including ukulele, mandolin, banjo, drums, bass, vocals, and piano. I decided in 2006 that I wanted to be a full-time professional music teacher, and developed a studio of 60 students a week. Read More
