Working for a local drum teacher in 2005, I started teaching private music lessons in students' homes. From there, I took up residence at a local music store where I taught guitar, ukulele, bass, harmonica, songwriting, and music theory for the next fifteen years. During the pandemic, I added teaching virtually to my repertoire and have fallen in love with it. Since my first student I taught in 2004, through the days I taught at a music school, up right on to the present moment, I love passing the music onward as it was passed to me. For younger students, I typically start with showing them how to develop hand strength using a number of exercises. I then move on to scales, playing them in conjunction with 3rds and triads. Once the student has progressed I will begin to introduce chords and then connect the concepts using music theory. I try to get all my students to understand the number system, modes, and the ability to transpose simple songs that they are currently learning. Read More
