Moreover, the teacher who's job is to cultivate and direct is about twenty percent of the equation. With the proper guidance and orchestration , the student propels forward and gets to a level of competency with teach and practice. Some of the world's great artists, have done it this way and I believe for one that this approach works best as a personal direct from teacher to student. While a good teacher is essential, one who can see the scope of ability in a student and work with both the negatives and positives, the teacher herein is as mentioned a small part of the students success. Phase 6: Fingerpicking and Tapping Here we will explore the technique of fingerpicking. The student will use all the fingers on their right hand to the fullest extent and be able to play lovely music of many genres. We will also explore Finger Tapping, a style which uses both hands on the fretboard. This will help with electrifying solos as well as interesting acoustic solo pieces. Phase 7: Advanced Soloing and Improvisation At this point we have a masterful guitar player and are getting them ready for their big debut at Madison Square Garden :) In this phase we will expand the riffs we have learned into full length solos. I like to divide my lessons in two parts: first we address the most formal aspects of the lesson, most of the times using a method book or given hand-outs or whatever relevant material was suggested to the student; the remainder of the lesson is dedicated to work on the students choice of a song or anything less formal suggested by myself. This scheme for lessons might be different regarding the level and commitment of the student, but it is in general the outline I use. Read More

Hi! I'm Kurt, singer-songwriter/composer, a multi-instrumentalist, and a patient and natural teacher. I've been playing guitar for over 20 years, piano for almost 20. I release music as "The Broadest Blue"; I am in the process of recording my second album--the first (plus two singles) are available on all streaming platforms. I've played every little bar venue in the East Village, directing a complex musical outfit built to play music with brass and string parts (all music, lyrics, and arrangements written by me). I always make sure to appreciate the big and even little accomplishments my students make. I will never complain if a student is not reaching my expectations because I believe complaining only discourages the student. My main goal is to make students realize that learning music is fun and a great experience to have in life. Whether you are doing it as a pastime or as a job, I want to let them know that music is one of the greatest forms of entertainment of all time! Read More
